There's some interesting innovation of hovercrafts going on in Russia. They're marketing it as a more robust transportation device for those on and around rivers with winter.
The name of the craft is Gerris and is made by Vladimir Kurilov, general director of GirOs.
There's much more info on their website including preproduction prototypes with less canopy. They look to have evolved to this product from gyroplanes.
